What's Happening in Our Classroom
We are gearing up for a new year at WES, and I am so excited to start it with my new kiddos coming in. We will be creative writers, math masters, and curious scientist. Some fun highlights this nine weeks are: Genius Hour, STEM challenges, and Sock Hop PBIS. Can't wait to see the places we will go! Remember to check your child's planner for any assignments or tests coming up.
- Math: We are now in Module 3-Multiplication & Division. This unit is our longest unit of the year. The students have been given three different ways to solve multi-digit x 1 digit math problems. The partial products and area model ways are a new way of breaking down multiplication. The standard algorithm is the traditional way most of us are used to. Have your child bring home their math notebooks to teach you all 3 ways. Students will also be doing the Fast Facts Challenge (Facts 0-10). Test on multiplication or division fluency will be every Friday. If they get 90% or higher in 5 minutes, they move on to the next level. Practice those facts!
- Science: We are in Unit 2: Earth's Processes. We have been doing Mystery Science investigations and investigations to explain the different layers of the Earth, and how fossils form in different layers around the world. Our big Unit 2 Test will be after Thanksgiving on November 29th.
- Spelling: Lesson 7 words
- Grammar: None this week
Meet Our Awesome Cub This Month...
We would like to introduce our Cub Cafe for September...Kaycee M. She is a joy to have in our classroom everyday. She always is willing to help others, and is very helpful. She takes pride in all of her work, and makes sure it is completed with precision. She surely will do amazing things in the future, and we are so proud to call her one of our classmates.
