What's Happening in Our Classroom
We are almost halfway through this school year! We have been working hard and persevering through our lessons. We will continue be creative writers, math masters, and curious scientist. Some fun highlights this nine weeks are: Genius Hour, STEM challenges, and Superhero PBIS. Can't wait to see the places we will go! Remember to check your child's planner for any assignments or tests coming up.
- Math: We are now in Module 3-Multiplication & Division. This unit is our longest unit of the year. We are working on division all this week. Students will be dividing 2 digit, 3 digit, and 4 digit numbers by a 1 digit number. The standard algorithm is the traditional way most of us are used to, but I have also showed your children another method that I nicknamed "the box method". Have your child bring home their math notebooks to teach you both ways. Students will also be doing the Fast Facts Challenge (Facts 0-10). Test on multiplication or division fluency will be every Friday. If they get 90% or higher in 5 minutes, they move on to the next level. Practice those facts!
- Science: We are in Unit 2: Earth's Processes. We have been doing Mystery Science investigations and investigations to explain the different layers of the Earth, and how fossils form in different layers around the world. Our big Unit 2 Test will be Friday, December 7th. There is no study guide, so have your child read over their notes in their notebooks and read over old homeworks.
- Spelling: Lesson 8-words with double consonants
- Grammar: Young Author Writing
