Today in Social Studies we talked about immigrants coming to America.  We discussed why some immigrants came, and where they came from.  Ellis Island was a popular immigrant checkpoint on the EAST COAST from 1892-1954.  So the question is:

**What was the name of the immigrant checkpoint on the WEST COAST during the 1900's?

Here are some additional wonders feel free to answer one:

-How many immigrants passed through Ellis Island?
-What country had the MOST immigrants travel through Ellis Island?
-What were different checks or stations an immigrant might pass through as they went through Ellis Island?

Can you find any more cool facts about immigration through Ellis Island you can share?

Ellis Island was first a place for colonists to fish for oysters but then it became a military fort. After that it became a really popular checkpoint.
